Chorus

Block by block and one, two, three!
We build a home for you and me!

Let's build a house of stone and wood!

Little lamb says, “Baa, baa, baa!
Where's my home? Is it very far?”
Build a barn with a big red door,
Room for one and room for more!

Block by block and one, two, three!
We build a home for you and me!
God made the world, and it was good,
Let's build a house of stone and wood!

Little duck says, “Quack, quack, quack!
Mama's there, but I can't get back!”
Build a bridge that is big and strong,
Waddle, waddle, come along!

Block by block and one, two, three!
We build a home for you and me!
God made the world, and it was good,
Let's build a house of stone and wood!

Five, six, seven, eight, open up the garden gate!
Nine and ten, and now we're done:
A home for every little one!

We build a home for you and me!
God made the world, and it was good,
Let's build a house of stone and wood!

Ending

And it was very, very good!

About the song

“Block by Block” is made for the youngest builders: a chorus with claps after “one, two, three!”, a little lamb who needs a home and a duckling who can't get back to its mama, and counting to ten as the walls go up. It grew from Genesis 1:31, where God saw everything he had made and it was very good, and from the joy of making homes for the animals God made. Written for Little Builders, where it plays (without the words) while you build, and every block you put down rings a note.

“God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.”

Genesis 1:31 (World English Bible)
